The Harmony Fire Co. was established in 1790. The company originated under the name of the Mullica Hill Fire Company. In the early 1900's, the members changed the name to the Harmony Fire Company No.1. The documentation, which we still have today, states the Mullica Hill Fire Co. of 1827 will at the time of an alarm, respond to the place of a fire as expeditiously as possible, with his buckets, and his best endeavors to extinguish the fire and preserve the property. If the buckets of any member shall be injured or lost at a fire, the same shall be repaired or replaced at the expense of the Company. The article also stated that each member, at the time of subscribing to these articles of the Company, pay an initial five dollars upon joining the Company and then pay twenty-five cents annually to the Fire Company for its own use. Some things never seem to change. To this day, approximately 178 years later, we still pay dues to the Company.
According to the original Certificate of Incorporation, which we still have in our possession, the Harmony Fire Co. was officially organized and incorporated in the year 1904. The document stated that they would assume and choose the corporate name of The Harmony Fire Company No.1 of Mullica Hill, New Jersey and declare the object of said association to be the protection of life and property from fire, and that said association is to continue forever, and without limit.
The same still holds true today. The Harmony Fire Company continues the tradition of providing service to the residents of Mullica Hill and Harrison Township. The protection of life and property is our first and foremost responsibility to the community in which we serve. We the members of the Harmony Fire Company, through training and experience in the field of firefighting and Emergency Medical Treatment, pledge to provide the best possible care and aid to our residents and to the general public. |
