Storms bring several calls & crash into waterway
Thursday, June 24, 2010 16:31
-
District 23 was dispatched to four alarm systems, three wires calls, one assist the PD, and one mvc into a concrete bridge barrier which resulted in the vehicle going air borne and down into a stream that was 30 feet below. All these assignments came in during a two hour period during a passing summer storm. The MVC was the most significant which required extrication of the driver from the vehicle and then removing him from the area with the use of ladders and rescue rope. During this time the front of the vehicle was submerged in approximately 2 feet of water. The Pt was packaged on a longboard, lashed into a stokes basket and raised up to street level to 2391. Pt was then removed from the stokes and then loaded into the BLS unit. ALS was also on location and assisted the squad with Pt care. The crews stood by and assisted the tow company with the recovery of the vehicle.
